Gorges, Julia

Dr. Julia Gorges is a post-doctoral researcher in educational psychology at Bielefeld University, Germany. In 2001, she completed a B.A. in Business Information Technology at the University of Cooperative Education in Mannheim, Germany. After having worked in technology risk consulting and business auditing, she studied education science and adult education at the University of Cologne, from which she received her diploma in 2007. She joined the educational psychology work group at Bieleld University in 2008 and finished her publication-based dissertation entitled "Out of School, Out of Mind? An expectancy-value analysis of adult learners' motivation" in 2012. From 2009 to 2011, she also worked in a research project on junior researchers' goal conflicts. Since then she continued research on adults' motivation to learn and to participate in education. She received funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2013 for her research Project "Learning motivation beyond school". Moreover, she is a research fellow of the College for Interdisciplinary Educational Research. Her major area of research is motivation in higher and further education. Drawing on Eccles' expectancy-value-model, her research aims at explaining how motivation to learn after graduation from secondary school develops and translates into actual learning behavior.
