Avraamidou, Lucy

Lucy Avraamidou a Rosalind Franklin Fellow and an Associate Professor of Science Education at the Institute for Science Education and Communication at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She was born and raised in Cyprus where she worked as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Science Education at the University of Nicosia and at the Open University Cyprus. She received her PhD (2003) in Science Education from the Pennsylvania State University in the USA. Upon its completion she worked as a Research Associate at the NSF-funded Center of Informal Learning and Schools (CILS) at King's College London. Her research is associated with theoretical and empirical explorations of how young people, and especially girls, engage and identify (or not) with science in school and out-of-school settings (e.g., museums, science centers, science festivals).
