Salmela-Aro, Katariina

Katariina Salmela-Aro is currently Research Director in the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies in the University of Helsinki and Professor in the Finnish Center of Excellence on Learning and Motivation Research. She is a Director of the FinEdu Longitudinal Research. She was a post-doc in the Max-Planck Institute, Berlin and member of the Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Culture and Society and several steering committees. She is EC member of the Finnish Graduate School of Psychology. She is a Secretary General in the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (ISSBD), EC member of the European Society for Developmental Psychology and founding member of the International Collaborative Pathways team, organized by the Institute of Education, London and a member for the Analysis of Pathways from Childhood to Adulthood (CAPCA), organized by the University of Michigan. She is consulting editor in the Developmental Psychology, an associate editor in European Psychologist, Personality: new innovative journal and Psykologia, and in the editorial board of European Journal of Developmental Psychology. She has published over 150 papers and chapters, and given several keynote presentations. She has received several research grants and led several research projects. Her main interests are motivation, critical life transitions, engagement, burnout, productive development, well-being and related interventions.
