Viljaranta, Jaana

Dr. Jaana Viljaranta is working as a post doc researcher at the Department of Psychology, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She completed her Ph.D. in December 2010 in the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Learning and Motivation Research, in the University of Jyväskylä.  Her dissertation examined students’ learning motivation, especially the role of interest and task values in relation to academic skill development and educational plans. After that she has been doing research focusing on the development of learning motivation, as well as on the role that teachers and parents play with regard to students’ motivation.  

Dr. Viljaranta’s recent research interests have also included the developmental changes in adolescents’ motivation, as well as the role of learning motivation in relation to adolescents’ educational and occupational plans and decisions. She is especially interested in deploying a person-oriented approach to examine these topics.
