Bobis, Janette

Janette Bobis is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney, Australia. Janette’s teaching and research focuses on teacher learning in mathematics education, particularly regarding the development of teacher knowledge, beliefs and practices; and student learning, predominantly concerned with the development of their arithmetical thinking strategies and their motivation and engagement in mathematics. Her current research work focuses on the development of self-directed learning of mathematics content and pedagogy of Year 5-8 teachers. Another project tracks shifts in student achievement, motivation and engagement in mathematics as they transition from primary to high school. Janette has been awarded several research and teaching awards, including a national Practical Implications Award for her research on primary teacher pre-service mathematics education and a national Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in mathematics education.
